One man died on Saturday afternoon (8th January 2022) in a tragic accident on the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway, while six (6) others were seriously injured and are currently hospitalized.
According to reports, the accident took place around 2:30pm on Saturday along the Northbound lane of the Highway in the vicinity of Claxton Bay. The accident resulted in gridlock traffic for at least four (4) hours.
The deceased has been identified as Farley Quintal. The man was said to be driving his Nissan Wingroad Wagon on the Southbound lane of the Highway when he lost control of his vehicle, causing it to cross the median and collide with a seven-seater vehicle on the Northbound lane.
Quintal was pinned to the car, resulting in Fire Officers having to use the 'Jaws of Life' apparatus to extricate him. The man was then taken to the San Fernando General Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The occupants of the other vehicle sustained serious injuries and were also taken for medical treatment. Their conditions at this time are said to not be life-threatening.
