The Ministry of Health held a virtual Press Conference at 11am this morning (Wednesday 28th April 2021) to update the public on the latest developments with COVID-19 in Trinidad and Tobago. Below are the key points discussed today, courtesy of TTT Live Online: - Minister of Health, Terrence Deyalsingh, announced that 41,802 persons have been vaccinated to date. The Minister indicated that there are only a couple hundred doses left to be administered at the South West Regional Health Authority (SWRHA) and the Tobago Health Authority with the other RHAs having already completed their vaccination drives for this phase. - Minister Deyalsingh also stated that the COVAX facility has confirmed that 33,600 vaccines are to be delivered in May. - The Health Minister addressed a question concerning the suggestion by the Barkeepers and Operators Association of Trinidad and Tobago (BOATT) to impose a ban on the consumption of alcohol in public. Minister Deyalsingh stated that he discussed the topic with the Attorney General who indicated to him that the legislation required to give life to such a ban will require a 3/5 majority as it infringes on several rights. The Minister concluded that this means that such a restriction will not be pursued at this time. - Chief Medical Officer, Dr Roshan Parasram, provided an update on the Hospital Occupancy for COVID-19 patients. He stated that currently the occupancy stands at 58% with the Intensive Care Units at 27% occupancy and the High Dependency Units at 12%.
