The Ministry of Health held a virtual Press Conference at 11am this morning (Wednesday 24th February 2021) to update the public on the latest developments with COVID-19 in Trinidad and Tobago. Below are the key points discussed today, courtesy of TTT Live Online: - Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Roshan Parasram, addressed the issue of recent reports of Yellow Fever in Red Howler monkeys. Dr. Parasram stated that there are no cases of Yellow Fever in the human population at this time but urged those in high risk groups, i.e, those that frequent forested areas, to ensure that they get vaccinated if they haven’t already. - Dr. Parasram indicated that one (1) dose of the Yellow Fever is enough for a lifetime but if someone in a high risk group has forgotten if they received the vaccination, it is safe for them to get re-vaccinated to be on the safe side. - The CMO also urged parents to ensure that their children get vaccinated for Yellow Fever even with the lack of in-person schooling at this time. - Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, Dr. Amery Browne, spoke on his Ministry's work in ensuring that T&T receives vaccines. Minister Browne assured the public that the first supply of vaccines from the COVAX facility will be here in the coming weeks. - Minister Browne also announced that the Government of T&T is actively looking to broaden the scope of our vaccine procurement and 200,000 doses have already been arranged from the African Union. The Minister disclosed that discussions are underway with India, Germany France and Canada for the procurement of WHO-approved vaccines. Watch the Press Conference below in its entirety.
