The Ministry of Health held a virtual Press Conference at 11am this morning (Saturday 27th February 2021) to update the public on the latest developments with COVID-19 in Trinidad and Tobago. Below are the key points discussed today, courtesy of TTT Live Online: - Minister of Health, Terrence Deyalsingh, provided an update on the status of his Ministry’s first vaccination drive of the 2,000 doses donated from Barbados. The Minister indicated that because this vaccine requires two (2) doses, only 1,000 frontline healthcare workers could be vaccinated at this time. Of the 1,000 initial doses, 991 persons have been vaccinated so far, across three (3) RHAs which were distributed as follows:
- Minister Deyalsingh announced that T&T will be receiving 100,800 doses in the first tranche of COVID-19 vaccines from the COVAX facility at the end of March. He indicated that this first tranche will cost taxpayers US $343,162 after a US $160,838 contribution from CARPHA for the purchase of vaccines. - The Health Minister stated that Phase 1 of the Government’s vaccine roll-out will prioritize the vaccination of roughly 4,000 frontline healthcare workers, other healthcare workers and the elderly/those with Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). The Minister also indicated that Phase 2 of the vaccine roll-out will prioritize persons with NCDs who were not vaccinated in Phase 1 and essential workers which include: persons in the Protective Services, Teachers, Sanitation workers, Parliamentarians and Immigration Officers, to name a few.
