The full list of essential businesses and services in which persons can engage in during the stay-at-home order from Monday 30th March to Wednesday 15th April 2020 was initially released by the Government yesterday (Friday 27th March 2020). However, it has been amended and signed by the Minister of Health, Terrence Deyalsingh, on Saturday 28th March 2020, meaning The Public Health Regulations No. 5 dated 28th March 2020 repeals and replaces those issued yesterday. If you are employed in an essential business or service named on the Government’s list, you can leave your home to go to work. If not, as a member of the public, you would only be able to make quick trips to the grocery, market, pharmacy, gas station or other listed essential businesses. If you are stopped anywhere on the road or highway and approached either by the Police or Defence Force, you will have to justify your purpose for coming out of SIQ (Separation, Isolation and Quarantine). If you cannot provide a reasonable explanation to law enforcement, you could face a hefty Fine of TT $50,000 and imprisonment for a term of six (6) months. Minister of National Security, Stuart Young, is advising all persons to walk with their IDs - Driver’s Permit, ID Card “at a bare minimum”. He said if the person falls within the essential business or service, they should walk with their work identification as well so it can be produced to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) or the Defence Force in a supporting role. He also suggested that companies should issue letters to their various workers who have to work. We are a small operation.
