A Diego Martin man is dead following a road traffic accident involving a Police Officer in Trincity early this morning (Tuesday 26th March, 2024). The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Kevin Constantine of Grasshopper Lane, River Estate, Diego Martin. The Police Officer is said to be 33-year-old Akil Daniel of Fanny Village, Point Fortin.
According to reports, the Officer was proceeding West along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway (CRH) in a Mitsubishi Lancer sedan, around 1:00 AM, when he attempted to turn North onto the Trincity Central Road. It is alleged that Constantine, who had been proceeding East along the CRH in a grey Mazda 323 (PBP 9287), collided with the Officer’s car at the intersection, causing damage to the front-left of the Officer’s car, while the front of his car was totally damaged.
Fire and Police Officers were notified and upon arrival at the scene, found Constantine pinned behind the steering wheel. He was declared dead at the scene, and a hydraulic rescue tool had to be used to extract him from the mangled wreck. Investigations are continuing. More on this as it becomes available.
