UPDATE: The U.S Embassy in Port-of-Spain released the following statement on Sunday night, also confirming the donation of Pfizer vaccines to T&T. The statement said eighty (80) vials were donated - which equates to 400 doses. The Government of the United States of America has made a donation of COVID-19 vaccines to the Government of Trinidad and Tobago. The donation includes 80 vials of Pfizer vaccines. The United States is committed to assisting the Government of Trinidad and Tobago with its vaccination efforts. We believe that every vaccine counts. In a puzzling series of events, the Ministry of National Security has confirmed that Trinidad and Tobago received a donation of Pfizer vaccines from the United States - yesterday (Saturday 12th June 2021). Prime Minister Keith Rowley, however, made no mention of expecting this donation of vaccines during yesterday’s Press Conference, which devoted a significant amount of time on the country’s vaccination programme. Minister of Health, Terrence Deyalsingh, also made no mention of this during the Press Conference. The Ministry of National Security issued a Media Release on Sunday (13th June 2021) which was sparse on details, but it was taken down a short while later and replaced with an even more ambiguous Media Release. This updated statement mentioned it was a “small donation,” failing to give an actual number of doses received. However, Minister of National Security, Fitzgerald Hinds, later said in an interview that 400 doses of the Pfizer vaccine was received. The intended use of these vaccines is for “National Security” and therefore NOT for use by the public. See the Ministry’s initial Media Release below, which was eventually pulled: MINISTRY OF NATIONAL SECURITY Below is the updated Media Release from the Ministry: MINISTRY OF NATIONAL SECURITY This is a developing story - refresh this page for updates.
