The Ministry of Health revealed in its 10am update this morning (Friday 28th August 2020) that there are thirty-six (36) additional cases of COVID-19 in Trinidad and Tobago plus two (2) new deaths. The Ministry reported a total of sixty-five (65) cases just yesterday. There have now been nine (9) recent deaths, bringing the total deaths to seventeen (17). The two (2) new deaths are both elderly males with co-morbidities. T&T’s confirmed cases now jumps to 1,512, with 867 being active cases. Thirty-four (34) persons have been discharged and 675 patients have been home-quarantined under the continuous monitoring of the respective County Medical Officer - Health (CMOH) offices. The Ministry stated the thirty-six (36) positive cases are from samples taken during the period 20th August to 27th August 2020. Therefore, this figure is NOT representative of the positive cases over the last 24 hours only. A cluster of nine (9) Non-Nationals is included in this group of thirty-six (36) cases. The remaining twenty-seven (27) persons are T&T Nationals. All established protocols have been implemented. The Ministry also notes that there are currently 99 COVID-19 positive patients being treated at Hospitals - 85 at Couva and 14 at Caura. Among the 85 at Couva, five (5) are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and ten (10) are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU). There are also currently ten (10) COVID-19 positive patients in step-down/transition facilities. Forty-seven (47) additional patients are en route/being admitted to Hospital and the thirty-six (36) new patients will be processed for admission.
