Following the release of Jerry O’Brien last week, the remaining five (5) T&T Fishermen have been released from Venezuela early this morning. The men were all kidnapped by “Venezuelan Pirates” on 27th January 2019 and a ransom demand of US $200,000 was made.
Lynton Manohar (35), Jason O'Brien (38), Brandon Arjoon (28), Jagdesh jaikeran (17) and Rickey Rambharose (49), all of Morne Diablo, Penal were sent back to Trinidad on a Pirogue. Upon arrival, the men were taken to the Siparia Health Facility for medical examinations.
Police confirmed the men appear to be unharmed - which means social media images showing they were brutally mutilated were false.
It is alleged the family of the Fishermen sold their boats, engines and a van to raise money for the ransom. It is unclear if the total amount was paid off. This is a developing story - stay tuned for updates. [Source: CNC3] We are a small operation.
