UPDATE: Shortly after releasing its 10am update, the Ministry made the following amendments to its figures:
The Ministry of Health revealed in its 10am update this morning (Thursday 27th August 2020) that there are eighteen (18) additional cases of COVID-19 in Trinidad and Tobago. The Ministry reported a new record of 159 cases just yesterday. There have been seven (7) recent deaths, bringing the total deaths to fifteen (15). T&T’s confirmed cases now jumps to 1,402, with 793 being active cases. 402 persons have been discharged and 643 patients have been home-quarantined under the continuous monitoring of the respective County Medical Officer - Health (CMOH) offices. The Ministry stated these eighteen (18) positive cases are from samples taken during the period 19th August to 26th August 2020. Therefore, this figure is NOT representative of the positive cases over the last 24 hours only. The Ministry provided absolutely no other information about these eighteen (18) new cases other than to say all established protocols have been implemented. The Ministry also notes that there are currently 118 COVID-19 positive patients being treated at Hospitals - 104 at Couva and 14 at Caura. Among the 104 at Couva, six (6) are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and eight (8) are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU). There are also currently fourteen (14) COVID-19 positive patients in step-down/transition facilities. The eighteen (18) new patients will be processed for admission.
