UPDATE: Police have confirmed the number of dead bodies found in the boat - fourteen (14). They were all men. Their nationalities have not yet been confirmed by Police. More details here. While Tobago fishermen were about to head out to sea this morning (Friday 28th May 2021), they discovered a boat adrift with approximately four (4) to six (6) persons aboard - all appear to be Venezuelan nationals and presumed dead. The discovery was made approximately six (6) miles off the coast of Belle Garden in Tobago. The fishermen eventually towed the boat close to shore near the Belle Garden Beach Facility and special heavy equipment have been requested to take the boat out of the water. A senior Police Official noted that special Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) would be used in the retrieval of the bodies. It is unknown how the persons died or how long the boat has been adrift.
