According to a Media Release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), a 47-year-old bank employee has been charged with the murder of his wife, a school teacher. She was bludgeoned to death with a hammer before dawn at her home.
Kurt Sylvester was charged with murder on Thursday 7th January 2021, following the advice of Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard SC. Sylvester was arrested and charged relative to the circumstances surrounding the death of his wife, Suzette Sylvester, which occurred on Monday 4th January 2021. Suzette’s funeral took place on Friday 8th January 2021, which was attended by her two (2) children, Sesha and Michael, her past and present co-workers, students, relatives and residents of the area. Her children sat near to their grandmother, close to the casket, while they listened to tributes at the funeral. According to the TTPS Media Release, around 6:15am on Monday morning, Police responded to a report at Mowlah Road, Preysal Village, Couva. On arrival at the said address, Officers met an occupant of the home, who directed them to a bedroom at the said address. Officers proceeded to the bedroom, where they found the body of a female, who at the time was wrapped in a green and white bed sheet, with blood in the area of her head and on the floor. The EHS arrived on the scene and made checks for signs of life, but found no vital signs. The District Medical Officer visited the scene, viewed the body, and pronounced the woman dead. Around 6:20am on Monday, the accused gave himself up at the Chaguanas Police Station, where he was arrested. We are a small operation.
