A man is dead after he was struck from behind by a vehicle in Siparia on Saturday night (9th March, 2024). The deceased has been identified as 69-year-old Everald Davidson, an Attorney-at-Law of Sobrian Street, Siparia.
According to reports, Davidson was walking along Gambal Street, around 7:00 PM, when upon reaching the vicinity of the Pentecostal Church, he was struck from behind by a purple-coloured Nissan Laurel, driven by a 63-year-old man who was allegedly intoxicated. Davidson was thrown several feet into the air before landing on the roadway. The driver subsequently stopped and notified Police and Emergency Health Services. Upon arrival at the scene, Davidson was conveyed to the Siparia Health Facility where he died around 8:35 PM while being treated for his injuries. The 63-year-old driver from St. John Trace was detained after he was administered a breathalyzer test that gave a reading of 85 micro-grammes, which was 50 micro-grammes over the legal limit.
Meanwhile, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) is cautioning drivers, and pedestrians in particular, to exercise greater caution and alertness on the roadways across the nation.
According to the Traffic and Highway Patrol Branch, Roadway Surveillance Unit (RSU), over the last six (6) weeks, ten (10) pedestrian deaths have occurred, accounting for 59% of this years’ road traffic deaths (17 in total). These pedestrian deaths are evenly distributed, with half occurring on both Highways and Main Roads. On Friday (8th March, 2024), a man who is yet to be identified, was tragically killed in a hit-and-run accident along the Westbound lane of the Audrey Jeffers Highway in Cocorite. Investigations are continuing. More on this as it becomes available. [Source: Ian Alleyne] We are a small operation.
