UPDATE: The two (2) UWI Students are expected to appear at the Tunapuna Magistrate’s Court today, Friday 19th October 2019. They were charged with using obscene language, blocking a main thoroughfare and resisting arrest.
The Students are reportedly being represented by St. Augustine MP, Prakash Ramadhar.
A protest was started by UWI Students on Thursday 18th October 2018, due to the University’s lack of action against crime on Campus. During this protest, it is alleged that Students decided to block the South Gate of the Campus and prevent vehicles from entering and exiting the compound.
Things quickly got out of control when a group of TTPS Officers, some allegedly armed with Rifles, used force to apprehend and arrest a male UWI Student (seen in the video below). Another Student was also arrested. Watch the video below and let us know your thoughts in the comments.

There have been six (6) other criminal attacks over the past month which involved Students being held at gunpoint on the Campus. The Suspect in this latest incident escaped through the Campus' Southern Gate, which runs to the Highway, as UWI Security searched the compound for him. The UWI Ambulance arrived shortly after and took the Student to the Campus Health Facility for treatment. An emergency meeting has been called by the UWI Guild of Students. Read statements below, made to the T&T Guardian by Guild President, Darrion Narine. Students are in an uproar over the incident that occurred today and they are demanding that more be done by the university's administration with regards to our safety.
