In fact, Minister Khan is assuring that the situation is normal, both at Petrotrin and NP (National Petroleum. The Ministry of Finance is advising its staff and members of the public that several of its Offices will be closed today, Wednesday 22nd August 2018, due to damages from yesterday’s strong earthquake.

Update: An Aftershock of magnitude 5.9 occurred at 9:27am on Wednesday 22nd August 2018 - nearly sixteen (16) hours after the initial earthquake. Another smaller Aftershock was reported at 9:48am.
An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.8 has caused widespread damages across T&T and as the hours go by, the full extent will be better known. There have been many reports of fallen walls, poles, trees; damages to houses, buildings and cars.
This earthquake occurred at approximately 5:31pm on Tuesday 21st August 2018 and was located 55 Km ESE of Carúpano, Venezuela. The earthquake was felt as far North as St. Lucia and as far South as Guyana. Several places lost electricity in T&T, including West Moorings and Diamondvale.
