A pedestrian is dead following a hit-and-run road traffic accident along the Audrey Jeffers Highway in Cocorite early Friday morning (8th March, 2024). The deceased has not yet been identified. According to reports, the victim was crossing along the Westbound lane of the Audrey Jeffers Highway, just before the foreshore lookout, around 5:00 AM on Friday, when he was struck by a vehicle, which continued on its way. Motorists observed the body in the middle of the roadway and notified the Police. They also turned on their hazard lights and blocked the body with their vehicles to prevent others from rolling over it. Officers from the Western Division responded to the scene along with a District Medical Officer (DMO), who viewed the body, made their pronouncement and ordered it removed.
This is said to be the 14th fatal road traffic accident for the year thus far. A similar hit-and-run incident took place on Sunday 3rd March, 2024, when 64-year-old Ramoutar Ramroop of Rochard Douglas Road in Barrackpore died after he was struck by a vehicle near his home. The driver fled the scene. Investigations are continuing. More on this as it becomes available. [Source: Ian Alleyne] We are a small operation.
