UPDATE (2:15pm): The Met Office has now extended its Adverse Weather Alert (Yellow Level) until 4pm on Tuesday 18th June 2019.
UPDATE (9:15am): A tree has fallen along the Erin Road in Santa Flora and has rendered the road impassible, bringing down power lines. T&TEC is on site, with traffic being diverted through Francis Trace. Expect traffic delays (via @TTWeatherCenter).
UPDATE (7:15am): Heavy rainfall with Lightning, loud Thunder and high winds occurring right now in Central and other parts of Trinidad. Poor visibility and difficult driving conditions on the Highways and roads as citizens try to make their way to work this morning. Drive safely on wet roads.
UPDATE (3:30am): Inclement weather has started across T&T with Thunderstorms producing heavy rainfall across Trinidad presently. Rainfall rates of 100mm/hr are occurring in localized areas. Several parts of Trinidad have picked up 20-40mm of rainfall in the last 3 hours and there are reports of Street Flooding in Southwest Trinidad. There have been 2,100 Lightning strikes recorded since Midnight with some areas experiencing power surges, outages and flickering lights (via @TTWeatherCenter).
Due to an oncoming Tropical Wave plus the ITCZ, the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service has issued an Adverse Weather Alert (Yellow Level) from 2am to 3pm on Monday 17th June 2019.
Periods of Showers and Thunderstorms, associated with the combination of a Tropical Wave and the ITCZ (Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone), are likely to affect various parts of Trinidad and Tobago. There is also the likelihood of winds gusting in excess of 55km/hr, especially during the morning. Street/Flash Flooding or Landslips may occur in heavy downpours.
