A woman is dead and three (3) others hospitalized, including her baby, following a road traffic accident involving a cement truck in Debe last evening (Thursday 11th April, 2024). The deceased has been identified as 24-year-old Simran Rahamut, a clerk of Laltoo Trace, Penal.
According to reports, Simran was in the back seat of a blue Honda hatchback, along with her 16-month-old son, who was in a child-booster seat, her father, 50-year-old Afraz Rahamut and a female relative, Amida Rahamut.
They were proceeding East along the M2 Ring Road, around 5:30 PM, when the driver of their vehicle overtook a line of traffic and collided with a Mack cement truck, which was proceeding in the opposite direction. The hatchback swerved off the road and ended up in a drain on the Northern side of the road, near the Debe Secondary School. Simran died at the scene while Fire Officers used the ‘Jaws of Life’ to extract her father, Afraz, out of the mangled wreck. Her father, her baby and her relative, Amida, were all taken to the San Fernando General Hospital (SFGH) for medical treatment. More on this as it becomes available.
