UPDATE (11:35am): The search for 2-year-old Kimani Francis ended in tears and sorrow with the confirmation that his body was found at around 11:05 am on Tuesday morning near his Techier Village home in Point Fortin. Police are currently at the scene. Teams comprising villagers, hunters, hikers and members of the boy's family set up camp overnight and continued to search for him during the night. Tragically, their efforts proved to be in vain.
Our article below was published minutes before the tragic news.
It has now been at least twenty-four (24) hours since 2-year-old Kimani Francis wandered off from his 10th Street Extension, Techier Village, Point Fortin home. He was last seen shortly after 10am on Monday (9th May 2022). The child is said to only be wearing a disposable diaper and is barefoot. He was reportedly spotted walking along the road by a neighbour around 10:20am on Monday. Two (2) men also allegedly saw the boy while cutting grass about a quarter-mile from his home. It is alleged he was heading in the direction of a bridge.
Many citizens have heavily criticized witnesses who said they saw the child wandering the road in only diapers, but did nothing to secure him from danger. A massive land, air and water search including all arms of the protective services, hunters groups, villagers and other people continued into the early hours of Tuesday morning. However, there is still no sign of the missing boy.
Guapo/Techier Councillor, Lyndon Harris, said some search teams stopped searching around 2am while some remained overnight. He said, “We have members of fire service who stayed overnight, members of Police service as well, we had residents who stayed as well. We started back already for the morning, we have drones here sweeping the area.”
