Police are trying to sort out the circumstances in which a 1-year-old boy was hit by a reversing car at Chrissie Terrace, Lendore Village, Chaguanas. The incident allegedly occurred on Saturday morning (7th May 2022). The toddler’s mother reported to Police in person on Tuesday (10th May 2022) that around 10:10am on Saturday, her son was at home with her aunt when he suddenly ran into the roadway in front of the house. She said he was hit by a car driven by her aunt's 16-year-old son. The teenager was reversing the car when he hit the child.
The toddler's mom said he was taken to the Chaguanas Health Facility and then the Eric Williams Medical Science Complex where he was treated for injuries to his head and face. He was said to have been released on Sunday. Police received an earlier report from a Chaguanas woman via telephone at 11:50pm on Sunday night, informing them that her niece's son was hit by a car. She admitted to Police that her own child was behind the wheel of the car, adding that the entire incident occurred in her yard. The woman said her teenaged son was driving the car when the child ran behind it. She claimed the driver stopped and the toddler crashed into the bumper, before falling to the ground. In the aftermath of the accident, she reportedly said she took the child and his parents to the Accident and Emergency Department at the Chaguanas Health Facility. The woman alleged that she has since been threatened by a male relative. Investigations are continuing into this incident. [Source: Loop] We are a small operation.
