The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) said it acknowledges a recent event of sewer overflows in the area of 24th Street, Beetham Gardens. This situation developed following the demolition of a building in the area that resulted in the exposure of the sewer collection pipeline.
In a News Release on Monday (29th April, 2024), WASA said investigations revealed the end cap of the exposed pipeline was not in place, allowing for overflows in the environment. “This situation was further exacerbated by recent rainfall and increased storm water in the sewer system, resulting in overflows via the exposed pipeline.” The Authority said it will continue to conduct the necessary pump down activity to reduce the overflows, whilst the authorities associated with the property make the necessary arrangements to properly cap the exposed pipeline. The News Release concluded by saying, “The Authority assures residents that it is working closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure this matter is resolved in the shortest possible time.” We are a small operation.
