Sauce Doubles has issued a statement following the kidnapping of the daughter of one of its owners in El Dorado on Saturday morning (18th May, 2024). The kidnapped victim, identified as 27-year-old Anisha Hosein of Maracas Valley, St. Joseph, remains missing up to Sunday night (19th May, 2024).
According to the statement, “The name Sauce Doubles is a generational trademark. It was originally established by our late Grandmother in the 1970's. She eventually passed the trademarked name onto her children, (the second generation of Sauce) who continued the succession of the brand along with their own immediate families. We the grandchildren (the third generation of Sauce) have developed the traditional street food even further by converting the business from street to shop.” Sauce continued, “THERE ISN'T ONE BOSS OR ONE OWNER to these various Sauce Establishments throughout Trinidad. It is owned by either an aunt, uncle or cousin (second and third generation family). Everyone operates their own branch to take care of their family and each are independently responsible for their decision making. We all communicate very well in the event of expansion and other business related points to avoid any conflict within the extended family.” The statement added, “In recent years the Sauce name has suffered much scrutiny because of some unfortunate events, each with its own reasoning. We take this opportunity to educate the public who may be confused about the use of the Sauce name and finally put rest to the rumors circulating about our families and our business in any illegal activities, envy within our family and other misconceptions. From generation to generation we continue to be committed to our family, employees and customers.”
According to reports, Anisha’s relatives are yet to hear from her or her abductors. Anisha was dragged and bundled into a nearby vehicle by gunmen at Sauce Doubles in El Dorado on Saturday morning (18th May, 2024).
The vehicle involved in the shooting and kidnapping was found abandoned by Officers in the Maracas St. Joseph area, around 12:00 PM on Saturday.
Officers attached to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit met with relatives on Saturday, where information was passed on. Investigations are continuing. More on this as it becomes available.

The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) said it acknowledges that it has experienced challenges recently with maintaining a consistent pipe-borne water supply to customers in parts of South East Trinidad, including Ben Lomond, Ecclesville and Williamsville. This comes as residents block the Main Road in protest of a lack of water, allegedly for over a month.
In a News Release today (Sunday 19th May, 2024), WASA said customers in these supply zones “receive a supply from the Navet Water Treatment Plant, which like all of the Authority's other major surface water treatment plants, is currently being affected by the ongoing harsh Dry Season. This situation has resulted in production at the Navet facility to drop to 14.9 million gallons per day (mgd), down from its normal 19.8 mgd. This has impacted negatively on the Authority's levels of service to customers at the extremities and elevated areas of the pipeline network.”
On Monday 13th January, 2024, the Authority said it delivered a comprehensive overview of the current impact of the Dry Season on its surface water treatment facilities, which has led to a deficit of 35 million gallons per day in water production.
In an effort to improve the level of service to the Ecclesville and Williamsville areas, the Authority said it is currently installing one (1) kilometer of 12-inch diameter pipelines, from Williamsville junction to Ecclesville. These works are being undertaken by the Authority, under the Ministry of Public Utilities funded Community Water Improvement Programme (CWIP) and is expected to be completed in the next two (2) weeks. WASA added, “To mitigate the impact of the reduced water available to service customers in these areas, the Authority has been providing a dedicated supplementary truck-borne water supply, with particular focus on customers at elevated and extremities of the distribution system, who are most affected.” The News Release concluded by saying, “The Authority assures customers that it remains committed to maintaining open lines of communication with all stakeholders, including Parliamentary and Local Government Representatives, regarding supply issues in these areas and the provision of a supplementary truck-borne service where required.” The Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government (RDLG) said it has intensified its efforts to enhance preparedness and resilience across communities for the upcoming Rainy Season.
In a Media Release today (Sunday 19th May, 2024), the RDLG said it “recognizes the critical importance of proactive measures and has amped up its collaboration with the fourteen (14) Municipal Corporations. The Ministry has deployed relevant equipment for de-silting exercises in drains and watercourses to optimize water flow and mitigate flood risks, ensuring the safety of citizens in flood-prone areas as above-normal numbers of wet days are forecasted.” Additionally, RDLG, in partnership with Municipal Corporations' Disaster Management Units (DMUs), the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM), Trinidad and Tobago Municipal Police Service, and Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service, has launched a Disaster Preparedness Outreach Programme in primary and secondary schools. “This initiative aims to empower students with the knowledge and skilis necessary to respond effectively to natural disasters.” The Media Release concluded by saying, “As we transition into the Rainy Season, we urge all residents to stay informed, stay prepared, and stay safe. By taking proactive steps and working together, we can minimize the impact of heavy rains and ensure our community remains unscathed. For more information on safety tips and updates, please visit our official website or contact our emergency services hotline.” The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) is issuing a stern warning to all motorists to strictly adhere to road laws, particularly those regarding driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding. This comes in light of a troubling trend where Officers have observed an increase in the number of motorists found to be exceeding the legal alcohol limit.
In a Media Release today (Sunday 19th May, 2024), the TTPS said over the past forty-eight (48) hours, three (3) persons were arrested for driving under the influence, while Officers were conducting routine traffic stop and search exercises along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway, Uriah Butler Highway and the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway. The TTPS said it has observed a “significant upsurge in cases where motorists have been apprehended for driving under the influence. The legal blood alcohol concentration (BAC) limit in Trinidad and Tobago is 35 micrograms of alcohol to 100 millilitre of breath. However, numerous drivers have been detected far above this threshold, endangering their lives and those of others on the road.” Tragically, this spike in drunk driving incidents has coincided with an increase in road traffic fatalities in 2024. The TTPS said it is “deeply concerned about the safety of all road users and will be intensifying its efforts to curb these preventable deaths.”
