The partially burnt body of a woman was found in Lowlands, Tobago, last night (Tuesday 26th March, 2024). The deceased has been identified as 58-year-old Deborah Gopaul of John Gorman Trace, Crown Point, Tobago. She was said to be an employee of Jade Distributors in Canaan, Tobago.
According to reports, Police Officers on mobile patrol observed a black Mazda 323 on fire, around 9:20 PM. Fire fighters responded to the scene and extinguished the fire. The woman’s partially burnt body was subsequently found slumped on the right front seat of the vehicle.
While initial reports stated she was bound and gaged, this has not been confirmed. Traffic was diverted along the Claude Noel Highway in the vicinity of Lowlands, after the car and body were discovered. Police said the vehicle was parked on the Southern side of the Highway, facing East. Gopaul’s body was taken to the mortuary at the Scarborough General Hospital. This is said to be the seventh murder recorded in Tobago for the year thus far. We are a small operation.
