The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has been closely monitoring a Tropical Wave in the Atlantic which has a 30% (low) chance of development into a Tropical Depression over the next forty-eight (48) hours. According to the Met Office, the system is located approximately 1,280 Km East of the Lesser Antilles, centered near 12N 49W and is moving Westward to West North-Westward near 30 Km/hr. Current analyses suggest that on its projected track, the centre of the system is forecast to reach the Leeward Islands by Wednesday night (30th June 2021). Meanwhile, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami is also monitoring this system and notes in its latest update that, “Disorganized showers and Thunderstorms continue in association with a Tropical Wave located over the tropical Atlantic.” The NHC also states, “Some slow development of this disturbance is possible later this week and this weekend.” The formation chance through the next five (5) days is “medium,” at 40%. At this time, the Met Office says the system poses no direct threat to Trinidad and Tobago or Grenada and its dependencies. The TTMS will continue to closely monitor this system and will issue an update at 6pm today (Tuesday 29th June 2021) or earlier if the situation warrants.
