The Demerit Points System is designed to track repeat traffic violators and introduce rehabilitative programmes for drivers who frequently breach the law.
In an effort to promote responsible driving and road safety, the Ministry of Works and Transport has complied a snapshot of the most common traffic violations that occur on our nation’s roadways, along with the associated Fines and Demerit Points. This new system will take effect in March 2020. See the list of frequent traffic violations below from the Ministry and let us know your thoughts in the comments. In the latest attempt on her life, two (2) of Rachael Sukhdeo’s friends, Hoi Pong (39) and Neera Ramnath (39), were shot and killed during an ambush at an estate and resort belonging to Pong’s father at Mathilda, Princes Town on Sunday 9th February 2020. Pong, who owns an auto customization business called “Hoi Pong Customs” and resides in Miami, was on vacation in Trinidad for four (4) days when he was killed on Sunday. According to Police, Sukhdeo, her children, Pong, Ramnath and others were gathered at the estate for a cooking lime shortly before 3:30pm. Pong then drove to the front of the estate to close the barrier when he was approached by a gunman who shot him multiple times. Pong ran a short distance away and collapsed and died. Ramnath, who resembled Sukhdeo, was shot multiples times to the head and face. Another person was shot in the shoulder and taken to the San Fernando General Hospital. Pictured Above: Ramnath (left) and Sukhdeo (right). Police were told that Sukhdeo hid behind a tree, then ran into estate’s banquet hall where she remained until they arrived. It is unclear if there was only one assailant involved in this incident or multiple. A white/silver Nissan Sylphy was seen leaving the area shortly after. On 12th May 2019, Sukhdeo also survived an attempt on her life in the car park of a popular Chaguanas Nightclub when gunmen fired on the vehicle she was in, hitting the front windscreen. Pong was also in that vehicle. Both managed to escape unhurt during the incident, with Sukhdeo running and ducking behind parked cars while bullets were flying. Masked gunmen were later seen fleeing the area. Several people were injured and treated at Hospital. [Source]

Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT) issued a warning to its customers on Saturday 8th February 2020 against returning missed calls from unfamiliar foreign numbers as this appears to be part of a “premium rate scam” designed to incur significant charges to their mobile phones or landline bills.
The warning from TSTT comes as many persons in T&T have received such missed calls, which usually only rings once and show up as coming from the African country of Somalia. When you return the call, you are put on hold by an automated system thereby keeping you on the line to incur substantial call charges. There does not appear to be any phone-hacking involved when your phone number is randomly called. See the statement below from TSTT to its customers and stay tuned for updates. TSTT wishes to advise customers to resist returning missed calls from unfamiliar foreign numbers.
Li Wenliang, the Chinese doctor who gave an early public warning about the Wuhan Coronavirus has died of the illness, according to the Hospital that was treating him. Coronavirus was recently declared a “Global Health Emergency” by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Li’s warning in December about a potential “SARS-like” virus made him a target for Wuhan Police, who accused him of rumor-mongering. He was one of several medics targeted by Police for trying to sound the alarm on the virus in the early weeks of the outbreak, which has now sickened more than 28,000 people and killed more than 560.

The U.S Senate has voted to acquit President Donald Trump on Wednesday afternoon (5th February 2020) of both impeachment charges he faced. Trump will not be removed from office. The Senate voted across mostly party lines. He was found not guilty of “Abuse of Power” on a 52-48 vote and not guilty of “Obstruction of Congress” on a 53-47 vote.
Trump was impeached by the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives in December, over charges that he abused the powers of his office to withhold nearly U.S $400 Million in military aid from Ukraine in exchange for the country launching an investigation into the family of a political rival, former Vice President Joe Biden.
Trump’s impeachment trial took just over two (2) weeks, the shortest of the the three (3) presidential impeachment trials in American history. The 1999 trial of Bill Clinton lasted five (5) weeks and the 1868 trial of Andrew Johnson lasted over seven (7) weeks.
It had long been clear that Trump would not be removed from office. Conviction required a ‘supermajority’ support of 67 out of 100 Senators, and with Republicans controlling 53 seats this was never going to happen. Today’s Senate vote on impeachment charges comes less than 24 hours after Trump’s eventful “State of the Union” address. Moments before his speech started, Trump ignored House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s handshake. She was later seen returning the favor by tearing up a copy of his speech behind his back (see video below for highlights). — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 5, 2020 |
