The United National Congress (UNC) Councillor for Cumuto/Tamana, Anil Maharaj, has announced to the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation at its monthly finance meeting that he has tendered his resignation as the Chairman of the Finance, Planning and Allocation of Resources Committee with immediate effect, in light of the recent allegations made against him. Councillor Maharaj, who was charged with misbehaviour in public office last week, said he intends to vindicate his name and reputation. He was charged on Thursday night (15th July 2021) with one (1) count of misbehaviour in public office.
