British Airways will be adding an additional day in its four (4) times weekly service from London Gatwick to Trinidad, via St. Lucia.
A Media Release on Tuesday (1st February 2022) from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts states that effective Wednesday 24th January 2022, British Airways began its service from London to Trinidad with a stop in St. Lucia's Hewanorra Airport. During the month of February, the airline will fly four (4) days per week on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. However, come 27th March 2022, at the start of the Summer season, the airline will add a Thursday flight to its weekly service. The Ministry notes that effective this same date, (27th March 2022), KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will be continuing its service from Amsterdam into Port-of-Spain. However, instead of via Barbados, passengers will be routed via St. Maarten. Senator the Honourable Randall Mitchell in addressing the upcoming increased service says, "Our European market is showing encouraging growth. Since beginning its service, the number of passengers coming to Port-of-Spain has shown a steady flow of persons either starting their journey in London's Gatwick Airport or coming intransit via London." Senator Mitchell continued, "Between British Airways and KLM, Trinidad has a great opportunity to target European visitors to come experience all that we have to offer." Because the European market typically favours Tobago, Minister Mitchell also sees great benefits for the island as it sets up opportunities for collaboration and co-marketing as a dual island destination. Minister Mitchell also said, "Developing the tourism product continues to be high on this Ministry's agenda as visitors want to experience a destination's culture and who they are as a people. The development of festivals is one such area that will be used to build awareness of the destination and generate tourism and economic activity for the country." We are a small operation.
