According to the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) on Sunday (15th May 2022), the axis of the first Tropical wave of 2022 is presently traversing across Trinidad and Tobago. As the atmospheric moisture increases, there is a gradual increase in cloudiness with moderate showers scattered across the islands.
Due to the instability that a Tropical Wave brings, the Met Office says there is a low to medium chance of some of these showers becoming heavy and thundery this afternoon. However, into tonight, a wind surge is expected after the passage of the Wave. This will increase the instability of the atmosphere even more. Thus, there is a medium to high chance of overnight heavy showers and Thunderstorms. Windy conditions are expected as well, especially during the showery activity. The Met Office states that, “Knowing how your area responds to heavy showers and Thunderstorms, be aware that some areas may experience Street Flooding and take the necessary precautions to secure property.” Depending on the amount of rainfall generated by this Tropical Wave, the Met Office may soon declare the start of the 2022 Wet Season — earlier than usual. The 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season officially starts on 1st June and ends on 30th November. This is a developing story - refresh this page for updates. We are a small operation.
