Three (3) men appeared before a Mayaro Magistrate today (Wednesday 9th June 2021), charged with breach of the Emergency Powers Regulations. The men were fined $7,500 each by Magistrate Wendy Dougdeen-Bally, or in default, six (6) weeks with hard labour.
According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), on 8th June 2021, Officers were on patrol and responded to information which led them to the Coastline from Stone Bright Village to Bon Espoire Road, Mayaro. Once there, the Officers observed three (3) men on the beach. When the men were questioned, they had no reasonable explanation. The men were immediately arrested and taken to the Rio Claro Police Station where they were charged for the offence. Arrested were Tevon Ross, 25, of Belle Eau Road, Mayaro, Joseph Boodoo, 37, of Cooper Trace, Mafeking Village, Mayaro and Roy Mitchell, 27, of Tabaquite Road, Rio Claro. The exercise was co-ordinated by ASP Jankee and Insp (Ag) Ragbir and supervised by Sgt Mohammed, Cpls Neaves, Flores and included Officers of the Mayaro Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Crime Scene Investigation Taskforce, Emergency Response Patrol, and the Rio Claro CID and Taskforce.
