Officers of the Northern Division Task Force, the Maracas St. Joseph Police Station, and the Emergency Response Patrol Unit responded and set up a grid patrol system, where they observed the Fielder driving along the Maracas Royal Road. The Officers attempted to intercept the Fielder and the X-Trail which matched the descriptions of the vehicles used in Kublalsingh’s murder. Upon reaching the vicinity of La Caurita, both vehicles allegedly pulled to the side and the occupants alighted, brandishing firearms. Officers called on the suspects to stop and surrender; however, the men reportedly shot at the Officers who became fearful for their lives and returned fire. The suspects then ran into a bushy area off the roadway and made good their escape. Both vehicles were seized and taken to the St. Joseph Police Station where they were examined by crime scene experts, who discovered that the X-Trail bore a fake license plate.
