Port Authority: Completion of Repair Works On M.V. Cabo Star

The Management of the Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago is advising all truckers and other users of the cargo service to/from Tobago, that all repair works to the M.V. Cabo Star have been completed.

The Port Authority said in a Media Release that owners of the vessel are awaiting the outcome of inspections today (Monday 18th September 2023) by the Classification Society, RINA, before certifying the vessel for safe operations. As soon as the certification is obtained, the vessel will be back on schedule.

A fire incident occurred on the vessel, following its departure from the Port of Scarborough, Tobago, at 11:23 PM on Wednesday 23rd August 2023. The fire was later isolated and extinguished by crew members, in accordance with vessel emergency protocols. No injuries were reported onboard.

The Management of the Port Authority said it is grateful to the following:

• TEMA, Coast Guard, TRHA and all other responders who assisted during the incident;
• The owners of the vessel, Bridgemans' Service Group, for their timely response and the introduction of the replacement vessel — M. V Emprendedora;
• The Management, Staff and Crew of NIDCO for the provision of additional sailings on the APT James, Buccoo Reef and the Galleons Passage;
• The travelling public for their support and understanding during this period;
• The Staff and Labour personnel of TTIT - POS and Scarborough who went beyond the call of duty to ensure that the daily sailings were carried out as scheduled.​

The Management said it regrets any inconvenience that may have been caused during the absence of the
M.V. Cabo Star. “The service will resume as soon as the vessel is certified as safe to operate. All truckers and other stakeholders will be advised in a subsequent notice.”
