Following Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s call for Prime Minister Keith Rowley to fire the Minister of Health over his embarrassing blunder earlier this week, the Prime Minister has responded to her attacks. During a Press Conference on Wednesday (17th February 2021) at the Couva Hospital for the first COVID-19 vaccinations in T&T, Minister of Health, Terrence Deyalsingh, was asked whether Barbados had donated the 2,000 vaccines. Minister Deyalsingh replied, “No, no, no, no, no, no, no...the Government of India made a gift to the region, using Barbados as a central depository. From that, we got 2,000.” Barbados had in fact donated the vaccines to T&T. Prime Minister Rowley issued a statement on Friday (19th February 2021) saying, “This is pure mischief and the usual disruptive behaviour of a deranged Opposition Leader struggling for relevance.“ He went on to explain how the donation of 2,000 vaccines from Barbados came about and noted that the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley, initially suggested the vaccines be used for “essential persons” (including P.M and Cabinet). The vaccines were instead partially used for 120 of our frontline healthcare workers on Wednesday. Prime Minister Rowley further stated, “We will ignore the persistent attempts of the irresponsible Opposition whose only aim is to undermine the national effort and disturb the psyche of the people of Trinidad and Tobago.“ See the Prime Minister’s full statement below: Response to the Opposition Leader’s latest attack on the Minister of Health We are a small operation.
