The Office of the President announced on Tuesday (18th August 2020) that it has received the final results of last Monday’s General Election from the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) and will swear in Prime Minister Keith Rowley and his Cabinet on Wednesday. The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for 4pm at President’s House. Political Leader of the United National Congress (UNC), Kamla Persad-Bissessar, conceded defeat on Tuesday. Speaking at a Press Conference on Tuesday at Balisier House in Port-of-Spain, Prime Minister Rowley said there will be both continuity and changes, including some new faces, when his new Cabinet is sworn in on Wednesday. There will apparently be shakeups in the Ministries of Education, Finance, Energy and Labour. A new Ministry of Technology will also be created by Prime Minister Rowley. Current Minister of Finance, Colm Imbert, in particular has received a barrage of criticism from the public for his handling of that Ministry. The new People’s National Movement (PNM) MPs are as follows:
Former Minister Pennelope Beckles will return as Arima MP after serving between 2000 and 2010. Unconfirmed reports indicate the following Ministers will be sworn in on Wednesday:
Former Minister of Communications, Donna Cox and San Fernando East MP Brian Manning will both become Ministers in the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM). It is unclear who will be the new Minister of Communications. [Source]
