The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) is advising the public that a significant plume of Saharan dust is moving across the Atlantic and is expected to arrive in our region on Sunday (21st February 2021). This Saharan dust will likely maintain a presence through the new week, however it is possible for occasional rainfall events to keep the dust at bay.
Due to these expected isolated showers along with the Saharan dust, we may experience “muddy rainfall.” It may therefore not be the best time to wash your vehicle.
According to the Trinidad and Tobago Weather Center (TTWC), air quality and visibility across T&T will be affected. Sensitive groups are advised to take all necessary precautions as they may experience health effects. The general public is not likely to be affected, though visibility will be reduced. There is an increasing likelihood of respiratory symptoms in sensitive individuals.
For sensitive groups, such as children, the elderly, and persons who suffer from respiratory ailments and allergies, you may need to avoid prolonged exertion outdoors. Some tips for sensitive groups are as follows:
