The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has issued a Riverine Flood Alert (Yellow Level) for a total of forty-eight (48) hours. The Alert began at 9:00 AM this morning (Thursday 22nd September 2022) and remains in effect until 9:00 AM on Saturday (24th September 2022). Areas along waterways and low-lying areas are expected to be affected.
According to the Met Office this morning, the South Oropouche River has breached its banks in some parts with water spilling into some communities in South Trinidad. There are reports of some smaller water courses being filled, with flooding in low-lying areas. Other major rivers are contained at this time and are being closely monitored. An Adverse Weather Alert (Yellow Level) remains in effect until 8:00 PM tonight. Citizens are advised to monitor weather conditions and river levels before venturing out. Avoid areas with flood waters. Monitor updates from official sources and plan safety measures, including emergency supplies of food and water. Follow the instructions of Government Officials.
