The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has issued a Riverine Flood Alert (Yellow Level) for a total of forty-eight (48) hours. The Alert began at 10:00 AM this morning (Monday 26th September 2022) and will remain in effect until 10:00 AM on Wednesday (28th September 2022).
The Alert applies to the following areas:
According to the Met Office, the South Oropouche River is very near its capacity and may have already breached its bank in some parts with water spilling into surrounding communities in South Trinidad that are prone to flooding. There is expected to be an increase in the volume of water into this main watercourse with added rainfall from intermittent showers and isolated thunderstorms expected during the course of today. Due to heavy rainfall overnight in Tobago, the Crooks and Bacolet Rivers both overspilled their banks causing flooding in Scarborough. Citizens are advised to monitor weather conditions and river levels before venturing out. Avoid areas with flood waters. Monitor updates from official sources and plan safety measures, including emergency supplies of food and water. Follow the instructions of Government Officials.
