The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has issued an Adverse Weather Alert (Yellow Level) for five-and-a-half hours on Friday afternoon (11th September 2020), starting from 12pm until 5:30pm. According to the Met Office, there is a high potential for heavy to intense showers/Thunderstorms to develop in some areas across Trinidad, particularly Northern areas, by Midday into the afternoon, which can result in rapid Street/Flash Flooding. Gusty winds in excess of 50 Km/h are likely in the vicinity of heavy downpours. In an earlier weather update this morning, the TTMS said it expects a partly cloudy afternoon with showers in a few areas. There is a high (70%) chance of showers becoming heavy and thundery mainly over Northern areas of Trinidad. This expected increase in cloudiness and showery activity is as a result of light South-Westerly winds bringing moisture into the region, coupled with the intense day-time heating from this morning. Conditions are expected to become mostly settled during the evening. In the event of a heavy shower or Thunderstorm, winds can become gusty, and Street/Flash Flooding is likely.
