The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has extended its Adverse Weather Alert (Yellow Level) for a second time today - this time by a further twenty-six (26) hours. The Alert was supposed to expire at 6pm tonight (Friday 3rd September 2021), but will now remain in effect until 8pm on Saturday (4th September 2021).
According to the Met Office, there are ongoing heavy showers and Thunderstorm activity affecting mainly parts of Trinidad and offshore marine areas of Tobago. This activity is expected to continue during the afternoon on Friday, affecting both islands. While some dampening of the activity is expected during the earlier part of the night, enhanced activity is again expected towards Midnight.
Street/Flash Flooding, localized ponding, landslides/landslips and gusty winds in excess of 55 Km/hr are still likely in areas of heavy showers or Thunderstorms, with isolated downdrafts in excess of 65 Km/hr. Citizens are advised to assess their environment before venturing out. Secure loose items and livestock. Monitor weather conditions and updates from official sources.
