Local Calypsonian Kenny J (Kenwrick Joseph) died this morning (Sunday 2nd January 2022) from COVID-19. He was sixty-nine (69). Kenny J, a retired Police Officer, had a busy Christmas Season with appearances last month on WACK, at Parang with Rome in the Naparima Bowl and on the last Christmas episode of Penny on Point on TTT. He was also seen on television advertisements encouraging citizens to get vaccinated. Known for his cheeky double entendre Parang Soca songs, Kenny J had numerous hits such as “Alexander,” “Paintbrush” and “Hush Yuh Mouth.” The news of his death was confirmed by his daughter, Jesselle Joseph, to Loop News on Sunday. She said her father, who was fully vaccinated, tested positive for COVID-19 and was hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Augustus Long Hospital. She noted she last spoke to her father two (2) days ago and he was trying to be strong and in good spirits. She praised Doctors at the Hospital for taking good care of him and keeping the family informed of his status. Kenny J was born on 15th July 1952 in San Fernando. May he R.I.P.
