Flags across Virginia were flying at half staff on Wednesday (23rd November 2022), hours after a Walmart Store Manager opened fire during an employee meeting, killing six (6) persons as a wave of deadly gun violence continued to sweep the United States.
Police Chief Mark Solesky said the first 911 call came in at 10:12 PM on Tuesday night, and the first Officers arrived at the scene two (2) minutes later. The assailant died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and a handgun was recovered at the scene, Solesky said. Police said the gunman was carrying multiple magazines. As shoppers stocked up ahead of Thanksgiving, a man identified by Walmart as Andre Bing, 31, a ”Team Leader” who had worked for the company since 2010, opened fire in the break room during a team meeting of about fifteen (15) to twenty (20) employees. Police said the gunman, who apparently shot himself, was already dead when Officers found him. He was found in the break room along with two (2) other deceased victims. There was no clear motive for the shooting, which also left at least six (6) people wounded, including one critically. They were transported to local Hospitals. According to Police, there were about fifty (50) people at the store at the time of the attack. Authorities have not disclosed whether any of those killed or wounded was a customer. Police identified those killed as Chesapeake residents Brian Pendleton, 38; Kellie Pyle, 52; Lorenzo Gamble, 43; and Randy Blevins, 70, along with Tyneka Johnson, 22, of nearby Portsmouth. The name of the sixth victim, a 16-year-old boy, was not released because of his age. The shooting took place three (3) days after a man with a rifle killed five (5) persons and wounded seventeen (17) at an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
