A woman is dead following a shooting incident in Couva on Saturday night (16th September 2023), in which her 8-year-old son and common-law husband were also wounded. The deceased has been identified as 45-year-old Denise Mendoza of Coconut Boulevard, Pleasantville. The incident is said to have occurred along Lisas Boulevard, Point Lisas, around 6:30 PM. According to reports, Mendoza, her 29-year-old husband, Renaco Pierre and their son, were in a white Toyota Fielder wagon, driven by Pierre, when several loud explosions were heard. The wagon then came to a halt at the intersection of Southern Main Road, California. Pierre and Mendoza sustained several gunshot wounds while their son was shot in the back. They were all taken to the Couva District Health Facility. Mendoza was pronounced dead while Pierre and the child underwent emergency surgery.
