Firearms Dealer Granted $800,000 Bail For Possession of Explosives After Fleeing To Barbados7/10/2022 Pictured Above: Suspect Brent Thomas, 61. A firearms dealer was granted $800,000 bail with surety when he appeared before Magistrate Maureen Baboolal-Gafoor at the Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ Court today (Friday 7th October 2022). The accused was charged with possession of prohibited explosives and firearms.
He is expected to re-appear at the Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ Court on the 3rd November 2022. According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), Brent Thomas, 61, of Nutmeg Avenue, Haleland Park, Maraval, was charged with three (3) counts of possession of prohibited weapons, namely automatic firearms and four (4) counts of possession of prohibited weapons, namely explosives, based on advice received from the Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Mr. George Busby. Police reports state Officers of the Professional Standards Bureau (PSB) were conducting an audit at the business premises of a firearms dealer at Aranguez. While conducting the audit, they observed several discrepancies. As a result, a search warrant was executed at the residence of the dealer. During the search, four (4) explosive devices were found. Additional searches were conducted at the business place and three (3) prohibited firearms were also found. Assistant Superintendent Birch of the PSB continued the investigations, and obtained seven (7) Warrants of Apprehension for the arrest of Thomas who, had fled to Barbados. He was arrested by the Barbados Police on Wednesday (5th October 2022) and subsequently handed over to ASP Birch, who had journeyed to Barbados in search of the businessman. The exercise was conducted and supervised by Officers of the PSB during the period Thursday 22nd September 2022 and Wednesday 5th October 2022. W/Senior Superintendent Suzette Martin spearheaded the exercise with the assistance of Inspector Narine, Sergeant Pierre and Corporal (Ag) Joefield. We are a small operation.
