The bodies of Mohid Hosein, 71 and Navi Hosein, 41, were discovered at their home in a rural area of Freeport - Jobas Road, Chickland - around 11:45am on Saturday (16th January 2021) by a friend who came by to collect some plants. The motive for the double murder appears to be a robbery that escalated into tragedy for the victims. Mohid worked as a taxi driver, plying the St Mary’s/Chickland route after retiring from PTSC about eight (8) years ago. Navi was a farmer and grew crops on the land surrounding their home. The victims lived alone. Mohid’s wife and another son live in the United States. According to Police, the victims were found with their hands tied behind their backs. Navi was found with a gunshot wound to the head in the living room and his father, Mohid, was found lying in a pool of blood in a bedroom. The front door was slightly opened. One of the family’s cars was stolen but later found abandoned near the Highway. A relative of the victims said he was unsure what could have caused the brutal murders and indicated the father and son were last seen at different times during the day on Thursday. They were found face down. They were unrecognisable. The police told us they were also beaten. The entire place was ransacked, and we still do not know what is missing, but nothing seemed to be missing from inside the home. Another relative said the murders came as a shock to the entire family and the community, since his family members were well-loved. Meanwhile, Councilor for the area, Anil Baliram, has called for immediate intervention and Police patrols. He noted the area has seen an increase in criminal activity recently. Our communities are living in fear, traumatised and terrorised by robberies and murders. Every single person knows someone who has been murdered, raped and robbed. Nobody is safe our citizens deserve better. Investigations into the double murder are ongoing. This is a developing story - refresh this page for updates. [Source: Newsday]
