Businessman, Derek Chin, said in a statement this morning (Friday 20th November 2020) that weeks of intense negotiations with the landlord of Price Plaza Mall to resolve the status of MovieTowne Chaguanas, proved futile and as a result, a final decision was made to close the branch - permanently. All their assets and presence from Price Plaza Mall will be removed. Last week, Chin said he told the landlord of Price Plaza Mall that he could no longer afford what was being charged and asked for an adjustment on the rent. He was hoping for a positive outcome. Chin had previously characterized the landlord as being “difficult” to deal with. Chin re-opened his two (2) other MovieTowne branches last Tuesday, at C3 Centre in South and MovieTowne Mall in Port-of-Spain, after the green light was recently given by Prime Minister Keith Rowley, for operating cinemas at 50% capacity. In his statement, Chin apologized for the decision and thanked Central and Chaguanas patrons for their support over the last ten (10) years and assured they will be looking at “alternative possibilities” in the future.
