The cast of ‘Friends’ honored Matthew Perry on Monday (30th October 2023), two (2) days after he was found dead at his home in Los Angeles.
In a joint statement to People from Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer, the cast said, “We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family. There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.” The statement continued, “In time we will say more, as and when we are able. For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world.” Perry died on Saturday (28th October 2023) after an apparent drowning in a hot tub. No drugs were reportedly found on the scene, and no foul play is suspected in his death. Following his death, Perry's family shared a statement with People, saying, “We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother. Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend. You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love.” A representative for the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's office told Fox News Digital on Sunday that an autopsy “was completed today, and toxicology results are pending.” Perry, who was born in Massachusetts and raised in Canada, was only twenty-four (24) years old when he began portraying Chandler Bing on the sitcom ‘Friends,’ which became one of the most-watched shows on television. The sitcom debuted on NBC in 1994 and starred Perry, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer. More on this as it becomes available. UPDATE 3: The creators of 'Friends,' Marta Kauffman and David Crane, mourned the passing of Matthew Perry in a statement: “We are shocked and deeply, deeply saddened by our beloved friend Matthew's passing. It still seems impossible. All we can say is that we feel blessed to have had him as part of our lives. He was a brilliant talent. It's a cliche to say that an actor makes a role their own, but in Matthew's case, there are no truer words.
From the day we first heard him embody the role of Chandler Bing, there was no one else for us. We will always cherish the joy, the light, the blinding intelligence he brought to every moment - not just to his work, but in life as well. He was always the funniest person in the room. More than that, he was the sweetest, with a giving and selfless heart. We send all of our love to his family and friends. This truly is The One Where Our Hearts Are Broken.”
UPDATE 2: Warner Bros. TV, which produced 'Friends,' shared in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, “We are devastated by the passing of our dear friend Matthew Perry. NBC also wrote in a statement, “We are incredibly saddened by the too soon passing of Matthew Perry. He brought so much joy to hundreds of millions of people around the world with his pitch perfect comedic timing and wry wit. His legacy will live on through countless generations.”
UPDATE: Perry's family shared a statement with People, saying, “We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother. Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend. You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love.”
Multiple news outlets are reporting this evening (Saturday 28th October 2023) that Matthew Perry, one of the stars of 'Friends,' has died from an apparent drowning. He was only fifty-four (54).
According to TMZ, law enforcement sources said the actor was found in a jacuzzi on Saturday at his Los Angeles-area home, where he appears to have drowned. First-Responders received a call for someone having a cardiac arrest. Authorities found him unresponsive around 4:00 PM local time. No drugs were reportedly found at the scene and so far no foul play is suspected to be involved. Reports indicate Perry came home sometime on Saturday morning after a 2-hour round of pickleball, and that he sent his assistant out on an errand shortly thereafter. However, when the assistant returned about two (2) hours later, he discovered Perry unresponsive and called 911. Perry is, of course, most famous for his role as Chandler Bing on the hit '90s sitcom, which ran for ten (10) seasons, and with him in all 234 episodes.
While 'Friends' was his biggest claim to fame, Perry had starred/guest starred in countless other TV shows over the years — such as 'Boys Will Be Boys,' 'Growing Pains,' 'Silver Spoons,' 'Charles in Charge,' 'Sydney,' 'Beverly Hills, 90210,' 'Home Free,' 'Ally McBeal,' 'The West Wing,' 'Scrubs,' 'Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip,' 'Go On,' 'The Odd Couple' and more.
He had also acted in a handful of memorable films (mostly comedy), like 'Fools Rush In,' 'The Whole Nine Yards,' 'Three to Tango,' 'The Kid,' '17 Again,' 'Getting In,' and many others. Perry suffered from his addiction to drugs and alcohol — pain killers, specifically. He was hooked on Vicodin for years, even while on 'Friends,' and had been in and out of rehab. On top of his substance use, Perry also dealt with health issues — some of which were serious and required hospitalizations. One such incident stemmed from a gastrointestinal perforation, which forced him to undergo emergency surgery, but he luckily recovered.
While Perry never married, he was briefly engaged to Molly Hurwitz a couple of years ago, which came to an end after only six (6) months.
Perry was born on 19th August 1969, in Plymouth, Massachusetts, to his mother, Canadian journalist Suzanne Marie Morrison, and father, actor and former model John Bennett Perry. Following his parents' divorce, he was raised by his mother in Ottawa, Ontario, where he was educated at both the Rockcliffe Park Public School and Ashbury College. At age fifteen (15), Perry moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting and attended The Buckley School in Sherman Oaks until his graduation in 1987.
Investigations are continuing into Perry’s death.

Adults: $40; Children and Seniors: $35. Showtimes and tickets are available on www.cinemaonett.com. Box Office opens at 1:00 PM.
Price Plaza Chaguanas announced in a Facebook post last night (Wednesday 20th September 2023) that CineCentral, the latest Cineplex from CinemaOne, is set to open this Friday (22nd September 2023) at the same spot previously occupied by MovieTowne Chaguanas. CinemaOne which operates IMAX, Gemstone and 4DX theatres, also has locations at One Woodbrook Place and Gulf City Mall.
The highly-anticipated opening of CineCentral at Price Plaza was teased by CinemaOne in July 2023, at which time the company promised to announce the opening date: “Opening Day will be announced on our social media pages. See ya soon Chaguanas!” CinemaOne first announced that the Cineplex was coming to Price Plaza in October 2022, just as the Gemstone Cinemas at Gulf City Mall opened. CineCentral’s opening was originally anticipated during the first quarter of 2023. MovieTowne Chaguanas was forced to shutter its doors at the location during the Pandemic. However, residents in Central Trinidad are thrilled to have CineCentral fill in the gap left by the departure of MovieTowne. Pictured Above: Steve Harwell. Photo Credit: Getty. Lead Singer of popular rock band ‘Smash Mouth,’ Steve Harwell, has died at age fifty-six (56), according to TMZ. Steve, the longtime frontman of Smash Mouth and one of the original founding members dating back to 1994, died on Sunday morning (3rd September 2023) at his home in Boise, Idaho. His Manager said he died as a result of liver failure. He was said to have been surrounded by family and friends on Sunday, and passed away peacefully and comfortably.
Steve had been in hospice, and was receiving end-of-life care at home with his friends and family around him, after being given only days to live this past weekend, TMZ said. It is alleged he succumbed to his health battles due to alcohol abuse, among other ailments. Steve had announced his retirement from performing live a few years ago, following a show in which he was found to have been slurring his words and acting erratic onstage. Smash Mouth skyrocketed to fame in the late '90s and early 2000s, on account of their album ‘Astro Lounge,’ which featured some of their most famous songs, such as ‘All Star.’ The rock band was also involved in the ‘Shrek’ film, which placed them on another level of fame — as did their cover of The Monkees’ hit song ‘I'm a Believer.’ Other notable tracks Steve contributed to included: ‘Walkin' On the Sun,’ ‘Then the Morning Comes,’ ‘Can't Get Enough of You Baby,’ ‘Pacific Coast Party’ and ‘Why Can't We Be Friends.’ Steve faced many battles in his short life, including losing his 6-month-old son to Leukemia. RIP, Steve. More on this as it becomes available. [Source: TMZ] This is a developing story - refresh this page for updates. Bob Barker, the iconic American game show host and animal rights activist, died peacefully at his home on Saturday morning (26th August 2023) in Los Angeles, California. Barker was ninety-nine (99) and is said to have died of natural causes. CBS issued the following statement on Saturday following news of Barker’s death: “We lost a beloved member of the CBS family today with the passing of Bob Barker. During his 35 years as host of THE PRICE IS RIGHT, Bob made countless people’s dreams come true and everyone feel like a winner when they were called to ‘come on down.’ In addition to his legendary 50-year career in broadcasting, Bob will be remembered as a dedicated animal rights activist. Daytime television has lost one of its most iconic stars.” The longtime host of ‘The Price Is Right’ actually got his start in game shows after legendary producer Ralph Edwards discovered him while listening to Barker’s radio show and hired him for TV. Barker started off hosting the iconic hit, ‘Truth or Consequences,’ back in 1956, in which he starred until 1975. He also hosted a number of other game shows and programs over the years, including ‘Dream Girl of '67,’ ‘Tattletales,’ ‘Miss Universe,’ and most famously, ‘The Price is Right,’ which he produced and hosted until 2007. Drew Carey then took over as host and the show continues to be extremely popular to this day. Barker has appeared in several other TV shows and films over the years, starring as himself in many of them. He got into a fight with Adam Sandler in ‘Happy Gilmore,’ stood in as Neil Patrick Harris' would-be biological father in ‘How I Met Your Mother,’ and played himself in other shows like ‘Futurama,’ ‘Spongebob,’ ‘The Nanny,’ ‘Martial Law’ and many others.
He had several minor bouts of skin cancer over the years, and suffered a serious fall in 2015 and 2017 that sent him to the Emergency Room. He fell again in 2019, and was treated once more at Hospital. He was also transported via Ambulance twice in 2018 for back issues. RIP, Bob. [Source: TMZ] Pictured Above: Denyse Plummer. Legendary Calypso Queen Denyse Plummer died on Sunday (27th August 2023) at the age of sixty-nine (69), following a long battle with cancer. Her Facebook Page issued the following statement: “It is with a heavy heart we confirm the passing of our beloved queen, Denyse Plummer-Boocock. Denyse was a wonderful mother, grandmother, wife, friend and an exemplary example to the younger generations. She will be missed by many, especially her family. She will live on through her music, literature and the beautiful impressions she left on everyone she met. We love you Denyse, thanks for the magic you brought to this world 🌷.” A false rumour of Plummer’s death circulated widely last month, prompting her Facebook Page to issue a message from her family on 26th July 2023: “Hi everyone. Denyse is alive and well, resting at home on this rainy Wednesday. We have received an overwhelming outpour of love and support today and for that we are humbled and very appreciative. It goes without saying we are quite disappointed the media would put this news into the public eye without proper verification, but what’s done is done. We just wanted to assure her family, friends and fans that she’s still with us and thanks again for all the love and support. God Bless.” A benefit concert was held in May 2023 to celebrate Plummer. At the time, her team issued a Media Release outlining her distinguished career:
“From her early roots at Junior and Senior Music festival competitions while at Holy Name Convent, to talent competitions, 12 and Under, Teen Talent, and Scouting for Talent, just to name a few, her professional career took flight, as she honed her craft singing at bars and hotels throughout Trinidad and Tobago. Plummer, 69, showcased her versatility in performing all genres of music, including pop, reggae, and country songs after landing a job at the Chaconia Inn in Maraval. With all these achievements under her belt, she understood profoundly where her ‘navel string was buried’ and entered the African male-dominated areas of calypso and soca, along with chutney music. Her professional debut was in 1986 to a local audience that was not quite ready to accept a female calypsonian, far less one with a white father and black mother. She persevered and captured many titles. In 1987, she placed third in the National Calypso competition. In 1988, she reached the National Calypso Monarch finals and also won the Calypso Queen crown. By 2000, she was one of the main attractions at the Calypso Revue tent. Plummer won the Calypso Crown in 2001 with ‘Heroes’ and ‘Nah Leaving.’ She went even further, winning the critically acclaimed Amateur Night at the Apollo Theatre in New York, USA, in 1989 with Whitney Houston’s ‘Didn’t We Almost Have It All.’ She continued to conquer various regional and international calypso competitions and travelled worldwide as an ambassador of the art form. ‘Woman is Boss’ is also one of her songs that created waves and was a hit. After devoting her life to Jesus Christ as her Lord and saviour, Plummer unashamedly began her gospel ministry and proudly spread the message of peace, joy, and love to all.” Tributes poured in from across the world after her death was announced on Sunday (and confirmed this time), including from Bunji Garlin, who said on social media: “R.I.P dear Icon, Pioneer and Factor, a woman of courage and force DENYSE PLUMMER. Condolences goes out to the family, relatives and loved ones as we all continue to give thanks for priceless contributions to our arts of Trinidad and Tobago.” R.I.P to the Legendary Calypso Queen Denyse Plummer. The ‘Barbie’ phenomenon shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon, with the movie surpassing the rare US $1 billion mark globally — in under three (3) weeks. Writer-Director Greta Gerwig’s blockbuster, which was theatrically released in the United States on 21st July 2023 by Warner Bros. Pictures, has raked in an astounding US $1.03 billion at the global box office, according to official Warner Bros. estimates. Only around fifty (50) films in history, unadjusted for inflation, have hit that billion-dollar mark.
Gerwig has now made history, becoming the first solo female director to have a movie cross a billion dollars. Stars Margot Robbie (Barbie) and Ryan Gosling (Ken) are both raking in US $12.5 million each for ‘Barbie,’ according to a report from Variety. Robbie previously starred in ‘The Wolf of Wall Street,’ ‘I, Tonya,’ ‘Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood,’ and ‘Birds of Prey.’ In an interview with Collider last month, Robbie — who produced ‘Barbie’ in addition to playing the titular character — shared a premonition she had at a green-light meeting with studios. “I think I told them they’d make a billion dollars which, maybe I was overselling, but we had a movie to make!” she said.
The global success of ‘Barbie’ was driven by box office sales in some of the world’s largest movie markets, including the United Kingdom, Mexico and Australia. The movie has been the No. 1 release in these markets every weekend since its release, according to tracking site Box Office Mojo.
‘Barbie’ also performed well in China, the second-largest market in the world. However, while ‘Barbie’ is similar to ‘Transformers’ in that it is based on an existing toy, it is “not an IP that generations of Chinese have grown up with, so you lack the intergenerational appeal that a film like ‘Barbie’ has in the United States,” said Michael Berry, Director of UCLA’s Center for Chinese Studies.
According to Berry, “Children in hundreds of countries…have grown up with the dolls, her imagery…(but) the film exploits that name-recognition in a very savvy way by playing into both the Barbie lovers and Barbie haters.” He added, “The film is also able to deftly walk a tightrope that appeals to both naïve and wide-eyed eight-year-old dreamers, who approach the film on one level, and adult audiences, who are able to interpret the film on an entirely different level, full of irony, humor, sexual innuendos, and allegory.”
‘Barbie’ has become everything from a relationship litmus test to a celebration of womanhood for people who may have come for the hot-pink outfits and stayed for the film’s existential questions. BoxOffice Pro Chief Analyst, Shawn Robbins, said, “Driving that discourse is the film’s embrace of what generations of women have both loved and hated about the brand and what it’s often represented in the past,” adding that the movie “has tapped into cultural conversations about gender roles and female empowerment that aren’t bound by international borders.” [Source: CNN] The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts said it is pleased to inform members of the public that the National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA) has re-opened its doors today (Wednesday 26th July 2023), after a temporary closure.
In a Media Release today, the Ministry said, “The safety and comfort of our clients and staff, is of paramount importance to us at all times and we thank you for your patience and understanding during this period. We look forward to welcoming you back to NAPA!” Please be guided accordingly. Sinéad O'Connor, the acclaimed singer behind the classic hit, “Nothing Compares 2 U,” has died at age fifty-six (56). It is unclear where O'Connor died or the circumstances surrounding her death, which was first reported by The Irish Times. The outlet was a given a brief statement today (Wednesday 26th July 2023) by O'Connor's family: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad. Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.” Sinéad's 1990 album, “I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got,” which contained her biggest hit, “Nothing Compares 2 U,” propelled her to stardom. The single, written by Prince, scored her a win for Video of the Year at the MTV Video Awards. The last few years of Sinéad's life were marked with tragedy, including the death of her son, 17-year-old Shane, who died by suicide in January 2022. Following his death, Sinéad released a statement saying, “My beautiful son, Nevi’im Nesta Ali Shane O'Connor, the very light of my life, decided to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God. May he rest in peace and may no one follow his example. My baby. I love you so much. Please be at peace.”
Sinéad, who has battled with her own mental health, was reported missing and suicidal in Chicago in 2016, but was later found safe. In an interview with Dr. Phil, Sinéad admitted she'd attempted suicide eight (8) times in one year. Sinéad announced her retirement from music in June 2021. She is survived by her three (3) children, Jake, Roisin and Yeshua. RIP. This is a developing story - refresh this page for updates.
