UPDATE (13/08/20): Deputy Commissioner of Police (Ag.), Jayson Forde, gave a statement during a Press Conference regarding the polling cards found abandoned in Arima. He notes, "The matter is under investigation."
Commissioner of Police, Gary Griffith, has launched an investigation into the discovery of a quantity of electoral polling cards which were found last night (Wednesday 12th August 2020) at Pinto Road in Arima.
At around 6:25pm last night, a Minister of Religion and a former Member of Parliament, received information from an anonymous caller and proceeded to a bushy area at Mottley Trace # 2 Pinto Road, Arima, accompanied by a friend. While there he observed a quantity of electoral polling cards in the said bushy area and reported the discovery to the Police. WPC Smith and PC D'Abreau of the Pinto Police Post responded to the report and cordoned off the area. The scene was processed by WPC Edghill Marcano and a team from the Northern Division Crime Scene Investigators. The polling cards were packaged into four (4) small brown paper evidence bags and handed over to Inspector (Ag.) Ward who is continuing enquiries. The United National Congress (UNC) has called for recounts in five (5) constituencies in Trinidad following the General Election on Monday 10th August 2020. Those recounts are currently underway.
