UPDATE (1pm): A roof has blown off on Wrightson Road in Port-of-Spain.
UPDATE (12:45pm): As expected, afternoon showers and Thunderstorms are developing across the Northern and Western halves of Trinidad. Locally heavy rainfall may trigger Street/Flash Flooding and be accompanied by gusty winds. Lightning may cause voltage dips/outages (via @TTWeatherCenter).
The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service has forecast a medium chance (40 - 60%) of heavy showers and Thunderstorm activity for this afternoon (Tuesday 22nd October 2019) for Trinidad and Tobago (moreso for Trinidad). This follows heavy rainfall in parts of Tobago and North-West Trinidad yesterday, which resulted in Flash Flooding at the Maritime Roundabout in Barataria as well as in several other areas.
The Met Office advises there can be moderate impacts (possible injury, minor damage to property, income earning disrupted for a couple hours to a day, minor disruptions with a couple communities affected) due to Street/Flash Flooding and gusty winds. According to their Common Alerting Protocol Risk Matrix, this risk assessment is reflected in a GREEN LEVEL RISK. While an Adverse Weather Alert will not be issued for Green Level, the public is still advised to be vigilant as these temporary disruptions can cause some discomfort.
This is a developing story - stay tuned for updates.

Alleyne, who also appeared to have a gun in hand, was seen on video standing near three (3) uniformed Police Officers while a fourth tried to reason with the suspect who was holding Alleyne’s sister, Danah, hostage. The incident occurred outside a house at Biljah Road in Chaguanas. The suspect, identified as Keone Paryag, was eventually killed by gunfire and Danah was rescued.
Gary Griffith said he would be meeting with the Police Officers involved and the probe would be conducted by the Professional Standards Bureau (PSB).

Some time before 6pm this evening (Friday 18th October 2019), Danah Alleyne, the sister of popular ‘Crime Watch’ Host, Ian Alleyne, was being held hostage at gunpoint by her boyfriend, Keone Paryag. Danah was at her Apartment on Biljah Road in Chaguanas at the time when Keone reportedly threatened her with his licensed firearm and prevented her from leaving.
Ian Alleyne and a group of Police Officers showed up on the scene and engaged with the suspect after neighbors reported hearing gunshots. During the encounter, the armed man kept shouting “Ian, me and you alone,” pleading for a dangerous one-on-one meeting with him. However, gunshots were soon heard and reports indicate that Keone was shot by Police Officers. Thankfully, Ian’s sister, Danah was rescued and taken to safety by Ian himself. She was unhurt.

Tickets for various traffic offences, such as speeding and breaking red lights, will be mailed to offenders later this year according to Attorney General, Faris Al-Rawi. Al-Rawi made the announcement recently at a meeting of the Rotary Club of Port-of-Spain West at the Cascadia Hotel in St Ann’s.
Works and Transport Minister, Rohan Sinanan, also confirmed recently that the mailing of traffic tickets will take effect “by year-end or sooner.” Five (5) new Spot Speed Cameras are set to be deployed along the Uriah Butler Highway and Solomon Hochoy Highway. The Ministry of Works and Transport will also oversee the deployment of 35 additional Red Light Enforcement Cameras. At the Rotary Club meeting, Al-Rawi noted that the software to enable this new ticketing system has been purchased and tested - and all Driver’s Permits and registration information have already been digitized. The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), the Licensing Authority, the Judiciary and TTPost are all ready as soon as the system launches. Al-Rawi also announced that very soon, people would be able to pay their traffic tickets and pay for their Driver’s Permits online. You can pay online for any service in Trinidad and Tobago using your credit card or your debit card or a cash card, in the comfort of your home in your pyjamas, or lack thereof, at 2am in the morning.
According to various Social Media reports, a Meteor was seen streaking through the night sky across North and Central Trinidad sometime between 9pm and 10pm on Tuesday 15th October 2019.
Meteors are glowing fragments of rock matter from outside the Earth's atmosphere that burn and glow upon entering the Earth's atmosphere. They are more commonly known as ‘Shooting Stars.’ Some Meteors, particularly larger ones, may survive passage through the atmosphere to become Meteorites, but most are small objects that burn up completely in the atmosphere.
On 15th February 2013 a Meteor exploded in the sky over Chelyabinsk, Southern Russia. Although no people or buildings were hit by the resulting Meteorite, the shockwave from the exploding object injured about 1,500 people and caused damage to 7,200 buildings in the region.
Throughout history there have been reports of stones falling from the sky, but the scientific community did not recognize the extraterrestrial origin of Meteorites until the 1700s. Within recent history, Meteorites have even hit humans:
According to Works and Transport Minister, Rohan Sinanan, in the Public Sector Investment Programme for fiscal year 2019/2020, the Ministry will be allocated funding for the deployment of five (5) Spot Speed Cameras along the Uriah Butler Highway (UBH) and Solomon Hochoy Highway (SHH).
In addition to these Spot Speed Cameras, the Ministry will continue expanding its Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), called the National Traffic Management System (NTMS), from the Uriah Butler and Churchill Roosevelt Highway Intersection to Piarco and Couva respectively, as well as oversee deployment of 35 additional Red Light Enforcement Cameras. Below are the proposed locations for the five (5) new Spot Speed Cameras along UBH and SHH:
Legislation for the introduction of a Spot Speed Radar Camera System is being finalized for early introduction in Parliament. This Legislation will create the legal framework for the use of stand-alone and mobile camera technology with the capacity to measure the speed of vehicles. This technology will be an additional feature used to enforce the speed limit laws on the nation’s roads. It does not rely on the presence of law enforcement officers for speed detection.
