Three (3) men entered Häagen-Dazs at Gulf City Mall around 10:40pm on Sunday night (18th August 2019) and proceeded to rob three (3) female employees at gunpoint.
A total of $9,445 was stolen from the popular Häagen-Dazs outlet, which represented the entire day’s sales. In addition, the three (3) employees were relieved of their phones, cash and other items. The bandits then ran out to a waiting white Nissan B-14 and sped off.
Unfortunately for them, their escape was short-lived as quick work by Police resulted in their car being intercepted near the traffic lights by Rushworth Street in San Fernando. The bandits, aged 22, 23 and 43, were arrested and a search of their car revealed a Knapsack containing the cash and stolen items. The weapon used in the robbery along with some ammunition were also found.
Two (2) of the bandits are from Princes Town and the other is from Siparia. [Source]

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service has issued another Adverse Weather Alert (Yellow Level) - this time for 8 hours from 4am to 12pm on Saturday 17th August 2019. Tropical Wave 36 is approaching the region overnight, dragging the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) Northward yet again.
Showers and Thunderstorms are likely to occur after nightfall tonight (Friday) and after the end of the Adverse Weather Alert on Saturday as the ITCZ remains across T&T. Street or Flash Flooding and Landslips may occur in areas that are susceptible and it is also likely for winds to gust in excess of 55 Km/hr. Atmospheric features are forecast to align well for the production of heavy showers and Thunderstorms. Rainfall is expected to start earlier in some areas, however the most intense activity is likely to occur during the time period of the Adverse Weather Alert. See the Adverse Weather Alert from the Met Office below and stay tuned for updates.
UPDATE 2: Autopsies have confirmed the family members were shot and killed. No motive has been determined as yet for the gruesome murders. The family’s business dealt with scrap iron parts and they were known to be private people.
UPDATE: The relative that discovered the bodies was the children’s older brother, Mitra Mohammed (21), who resides elsewhere. He came to check on his family after being unable to contact them since Sunday (11th August 2019). He was able to jump the front gate and soon discovered a broken door on the side of the house.
Inside he found the decomposing bodies of his parents and uncle. His younger siblings were nearby playing - close to dirty diapers and an opened tin of milk. Mitra’s loud screams caused neighbors to rush out of their homes and call the Police.
Police are at the scene of a triple murder in Penal where the bodies of Wazir Mohammed (59), Shelly-Ann Mohammed (43) and Nazim Mohammed (46) were discovered. The bodies were found by a relative at a house on Clarke Road in Penal around 3:30pm on Thursday 15th August 2019.
According to reports, Wazir and Nazim were brothers while Shelly-Ann was married to Wazir. The bodies were already decomposing, which indicates they have been there for days now. In fact, new information suggests the family members were killed four (4) days prior to their discovery. Shockingly, two (2) children were found alive in the house along with the bodies. One is an 8-month-old baby boy and the other is a 4-year-old girl. Although the children were left on their own for four (4) days, the four-year-old girl reportedly took care of her baby brother by preparing bottle feed, cleaning her and changing her pampers since their parents and uncle were murdered.
The children were rushed to the Siparia District Health Facility for treatment. Investigations are continuing.

Street/Flash Flooding and gusts up to 65 Km/h are likely near heavy downpours. There is also the possibility of Landslides or Landslips along hilly areas. UPDATE 2: In yet another embarrassing turn of events for the Government, hours after announcing Gavin Simonette as McDonald's replacement, pictures began circulating of a 2014 mugshot of Simonette when he was charged for DUI in the U.S. In light of this, his appointment has been cancelled and Prime Minister Rowley will now temporarily assume the position of Minister of Public Administration.
UPDATE: Senator Garvin Simonette will replace Marlene McDonald as Minister of Public Administration (See photo below).
A Media Release from the Ministry of Communications was issued in the early hours of Monday 12th August 2019, stating that Prime Minister Rowley has advised President Paula-Mae Weekes to revoke the appointment of Marlene McDonald. This is her third firing from the Cabinet. Will it be her last?
Hours later, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) issued its own Media Release confirming that the Minister of Public Administration, Marlene McDonald, will be charged with several offenses as advised by the Director of Public Prosecutions. McDonald will be charged along with her partner Michael Carew, Victor McEachrane, Wayne Anthony and Edgar Zephrine. They are all being charged with several offenses of conspiracy to defraud the Government and offenses of money laundering. In addition to these charges, McDonald will also be charged with offences of misbehaviour in public office. The investigation and subsequent charges stem from two (2) cashed cheques totaling TT $575,000 - one for TT $375,000 and the other for $TT 200,000. Both were allegedly issued to the Calabar Foundation, headed by McDonald’s partner, Michael Carew.
All five (5) persons were arrested between Thursday 8th and Friday 9th August 2019 and are expected to appear before the Port of Spain Magistrates Court on Monday 12th August 2019. The investigation into allegations of corruption committed during 2008 and 2009 began back in 2016.
A new Minister of Public Administration will be announced shortly. See Media Releases below from both the Ministry of Communications and TTPS. Stay tuned for updates.
Samsung revealed the Galaxy Note 10 at their “Unpacked” event on Thursday 8th August 2019 - and for the first time the Note series features two (2) different models. The Galaxy Note 10 has a 6.3-inch screen while the larger Note 10+ sports a 6.8-inch screen.
Another first for the Note series (and perhaps a sign of things to come for next year’s Galaxy S11) is the exclusion of a headphone jack after years of mocking Apple for doing the same on their iPhones. In an article by The Verge about the Note 10, they state:
There is no headphone jack — Samsung says it used the extra space for more battery. It was nice when Samsung was the rare holdout keeping the headphone jack there, but apparently all nice things die. Samsung is including USB-C headphones in the box, but not the dongle, which costs $9.99.
In addition to different screen sizes on the Note 10 models, there are also differences in RAM, storage and battery capacities. See a full breakdown of their specs below.
Shared Specs (Note 10/Note 10+):
Note 10 Specs:
Note 10+ Specs:
The Note 10 comes in Aura Glow, Aura White, Aura Blue, Aura Pink, and Aura Red (only on smaller model). Prices start at US $949 for the Note 10 and US $1,099 for the Note 10+ and both models will ship on 23rd August 2019.
But wait - that’s not all. There will also be a Galaxy Note 10 5G and Note 10+ 5G, both with the same specifications. The Note 10 5G will be available in Korea, while the Note 10+ 5G will be on Verizon Wireless in the U.S. Other Carriers will launch the device later this year.
UPDATE: Speaking with CNC3, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley says he is awaiting the outcome of the Police investigation into Marlene McDonald and would not want to engage in speculation about next steps. He defended his decision to re-appoint her to his Cabinet.
Police have confirmed that Government Minister Marlene McDonald and her husband were arrested and taken into custody earlier today (Thursday 8th August 2019) for alleged corruption offenses. A Search Warrant was executed at her house in Valley View, Maracas/St. Joseph and several items were taken away. McDonald is currently the Minister of Public Administration and the Port-of-Spain South M.P.
The United National Congress (UNC) said the matter is before the Police and they await the outcome of the investigation. They also said citizens deserved to have the Prime Minister make an immediate statement on this serious matter.
See the statement released by UNC below. We live in a country where the rule of law obtains, and every citizen is entitled to due process, justice and fair play. However, the fact that a sitting PNM government minister is under active investigation over claims of misappropriation of public funds and is now being questioned by the police, is alarming.
The Congress of the People (CoP) also issued a statement on McDonald’s arrest and expressed support for the Police in its fight against corruption.
While once again, we call for caution in that all are innocent until proven guilty, we also say categorically that those who steal especially from the public purse should be held accountable just like those caught in other criminal acts as it deprives our citizens of urgently needed services inclusive of hospital beds, better water distribution and upgrade to our schools and roads to name a few.
See a brief statement below which was issued by Communications Minister Donna Cox earlier today.
