Members of the public are therefore advised of the updated list of approved COVID-19 vaccines and vaccine combinations for Trinidad and Tobago, as follows:

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has extended its Riverine Flood Alert (Yellow Level) until 4pm this afternoon (Friday 30th July 2021) as Trinidad's major water courses have reached or exceeded threshold capacities.
TTMS notes it has received numerous reports of ongoing riverine flooding nationwide (except North-Western and South-Eastern areas), with flood waters currently rising in a few communities. No impactful rainfall is forecast throughout today. As such, the Met Office says that flood waters are expected to gradually subside by mid-morning to early evening.
Citizens are advised to carefully monitor weather conditions and river/water levels. Monitor updates from official sources, plan safety measures and do not take unnecessary risks. Avoid driving or wading through flood waters. Follow the instructions of Government Officials.
For today’s forecast, the Met Office says we can expect predominantly fair conditions, interrupted at times by some light to moderate showers over broad areas. There is a low to medium chance (30% to 40%) that some of these showers could become heavy and/or thundery favoring Northern areas. Nighttime will be mostly settled but for some isolated and persistent showers.
In the event of heavy showers and/or thundershowers, expect gusty winds, Street and/or Flash Flooding. Commissioner of Police, Gary Griffith, has taken note of posts making claims about the change of hours for the curfew this weekend and he is informing the public that this is FAKE NEWS.
In a Media Release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) on Friday morning (30th July 2021), Commissioner Griffith states that the curfew hours of 9pm to 5am will remain as-is until further advised, and any changes will be communicated to the public through the official channel of the TTPS' Corporate Communications Unit on behalf of the Commissioner of Police. The Ministry of Health revealed in its daily COVID-19 update this afternoon (Thursday 29th July 2021) that there are 233 new COVID-19 cases in Trinidad and Tobago plus one (1) additional death - the lowest reported in the last few months. There have been 5,454 new cases and 210 deaths so far in the month of July. The Ministry reported 243 new cases yesterday plus eight (8) more unfortunate deaths. A total of 31,341 patients have recovered from the virus to date. 5,224 persons are in home self-isolation and there are 122 persons in total at State quarantine facilities. A total of 376,226 persons have been vaccinated with a first dose and 189,273 have been fully vaccinated with a second dose. The Ministry states that the number of positive cases reported reflects the samples taken during the period 25th - 28th July 2021 and not the last 24 hours. The Ministry also notes that there are currently 311 COVID-19 positive patients being treated at Hospitals and eighty-one (81) patients are in step-down/transition facilities across T&T. As part of the national strategy to counteract the impending negative impact of the Delta variant of the COVID-19 virus, the Ministry of Health says the decision has been taken to enhance public access to the COVID-19 vaccine.
In that regard, the Ministry is advising members of the public that beginning tomorrow, Friday 30th July 2021, no appointments will be necessary to access COVID-19 vaccines at all drive-through vaccination facilities. World Health Organization (WHO) approved Sinopharm vaccines (first and second dose) are being administered. The Ministry notes that this also applies to the mass vaccination facilities in Trinidad except for the UTT Chaguanas Campus and the National Racquet Sport Centre, as second dose AstraZeneca vaccines are being administered at those facilities. “This initiative is aimed at increasing the reach, accessibility and convenience for members of the public seeking to be vaccinated against COVID-19. The population is encouraged to avail themselves of this opportunity to protect themselves and their loved ones from the COVID-19 virus.” Below are the locations and schedules for mass vaccination sites as well as drive-through sites. Commissioner of Police, Gary Griffith, notes the social media posts which suggest that Police Officers carrying out their legitimate duties, are being branded as imposters.
In a Media Release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) on Thursday (29th July 2021), Commissioner Griffith confirmed that the men depicted in the social media photo (above) are Police Officers who were carrying out a legitimate function. This photograph has been circulated via social media suggesting that the men were Police imposters. The CoP is therefore reminding the public that the TTPS carries out several functions on behalf of the Ministry of Health, to manage the COVID-19 virus. Such activity is generally co-ordinated by Assistant Commissioner Wendell Williams throughout Trinidad and Tobago. The Police visits, co-ordinated by Mr. Williams, are largely to restore or establish communication between County Medical Officers of Health (CMOH) and COVID-19 positive individuals. Commissioner Griffith pointed out that he established a Covid Task Force in 2020 to assist the Ministry of Health, in particular to ensure among other things, that quarantined persons remain at home. He says the TTPS had received reports that persons on quarantine, or COVID-19 positive, had been seen in the public. The CoP notes that Mr. Williams is easily reachable on Covid matters. “So, the Police Officer who reportedly advised the publisher of the social media posts that the TTPS has no COVID-19 Task Force, either misled the citizen or was misquoted.” The CoP says that ACP Williams co-ordinates a functional network of Police Officers within all Divisions and some Branches of the Police Service to fulfil those MOH requests. Police Officers carrying out these visits, identify themselves as Police Officers. If citizens are unsure, they can ask to see the Officer’s ID and badge, which the Officer is obliged to produce. Their visits are generally non-intrusive by word or action. At this level of visit, the CoP says the Police Officers do not board premises but communicate from a safe distance. The information they require are also simple and reasonable, and pose no risk to the citizen, the CoP adds.
UPDATE (2pm): As runoff from today's rainfall continue to infiltrate the Caroni River basin and other smaller water courses, the Met Office says river levels have been on a steady rise. Some smaller water courses have already overtopped their banks and over spilled onto surrounding areas.
The South Oropouche River is dangerously high and continues to slowly rise. The Caroni River is currently at 80% capacity and as run-off continues, a very slow but steady rise is anticipated over the next few hours. Although no impactful rainfall is forecast for the remainder of the day, there remains a moderate risk to public safety, livelihood and property, as watercourses maintain high levels.
The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has issued a Riverine Flood Alert (Yellow Level) from 8:25am this morning (Thursday 29th July 2021) until 12am on Friday (30th July 2021). Smaller water courses are mostly expected to be affected.
The Met Office notes that while major rivers are contained at this time, smaller water courses/rivers are currently at elevated levels. These levels are expected to gradually rise further as the day progresses. Intermittent rainfall activity of varying intensities is forecast to continue today with some improvement by this evening. Localized flooding and ponding can be exacerbated in heavy or prolonged downpours.
Citizens are advised to carefully monitor weather conditions and river/water levels. Monitor updates from official sources, plan safety measures and do not take unnecessary risks. Avoid driving or wading through flood waters. Follow the instructions of Government Officials.
