According to a Media Release from the Ministry of National Security on Thursday (25th February 2021), within the past week the Venezuelan Government made a request of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago to facilitate their provision of a repatriation flight from Trinidad to Venezuela. This request was made via the normal diplomatic channels to the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs. The Ministry of National Security states it granted preliminary approval for this repatriation exercise as it was seen as a humanitarian effort by the Government of Venezuela. All arrangements were made by Venezuela. When the details were provided of the aircraft that the Venezuelan Government was proposing to use to repatriate approximately one hundred (100) Venezuelan Nationals, it was discovered that the aircraft was amongst those sanctioned by the United States of America. Unfortunately in those circumstances, the Ministry said it could not grant approval for the aircraft to come to Trinidad and Tobago. The Ministry has since reached out to the United States of America Embassy in Port-of-Spain to seek guidance and will work with the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, with respect to the possibility of a future repatriation exercise by the Venezuelan Government. Many of the Venezuelan Nationals said they sold everything they had in Trinidad in order to pay for their required COVID-19 tests in order to board the flight. They are now stranded in the country and some do not have anywhere to stay. Watch the report below by Akash Samaroo from CNC3. This is a developing story - refresh this page for updates.

The Division of Health, Wellness and Family Development of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) issued a Media Release on Thursday (25th February 2021) stating that fake news is being circulated that someone died after taking the COVID-19 vaccine in Tobago.
The authorities are emphasizing that one died after taking the COVID-19 vaccine in Tobago. The Media Release was also shared by the Ministry of Health on Thursday. According to the Media Release, frontline healthcare professionals are being vaccinated in Tobago and to date all healthcare professionals have reported to work and are healthy. “It is important to note that when persons receive the vaccine, they are monitored daily for four (4) days for any side effects. Mild side effects such as fever, fatigue and injection site tenderness or pain are normal after taking vaccines and certain types of medication.” The Division urges members of the public to refrain from generating and sharing incorrect information and advises the public to get information from credible sources. “Fake news can be as dangerous as the virus we are confronting.” In a Media Release issued on Wednesday night (24th February 2021), the Ministry of Health says it takes “serious note of statements being put into the public domain, which may lend itself to undue confusion in the mind of the population as it relates to COVID-19 vaccine procurement and distribution.”
The Ministry outlined the following facts on this matter for the public's consumption: COVAX Facility The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) deals with member states and not third parties, middle men or agents, as is being erroneously stated. Vaccines from PAHO have always been led to the Ministry of Health (MOH) / NIPDEC and the same applies for the AstraZeneca vaccine. This vaccine is being supplied via the COVAX facility, using the PAHO revolving fund as a procurement facility, as has been the practice for over forty (40) years. African Medical Supplies Platform (AMSP) Trinidad and Tobago has signed off on the purchase of COVID-19 vaccines via the AMSP, which utilises a similar purchasing and distribution philosophy to the COVAX facility. AMSP has made available to CARICOM states a block of 112 Million doses of vaccines and has confirmed receipt of Trinidad and Tobago's pre-order for 226,000 doses. The Ministry notes that similar to the COVAX facility, these vaccines are not consigned to any local distributor, as is also being erroneously said in the public domain. They are urging the public to be wary of false information. The MoH also took the opportunity in its Media Release to reassure the national population that only World Health Organization (WHO) approved vaccines will be imported and administered to the local population and this will be done equitably. The Ministry of Health is advising members of the public that there has been a recent increase in the number of deaths within the monkey population in South Trinidad.
Laboratory testing by the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) subsequently confirmed the presence of the Yellow Fever virus in samples obtained from the bodies of dead monkeys from this area. Routine public health surveillance activities are usually conducted by the Veterinary Public Health Division and the Insect Vector Control Division of the Ministry of Health, to monitor the monkey population. The Yellow Fever virus is transmitted to people mainly through the bite of an infected mosquito of the Aedes or Haemagogus species. Mosquitoes get the virus by feeding on infected primates (e.g. humans, monkeys) and then can spread the virus to other primates (human or non-human). Through the Ministry's Expanded Programme on Immunization, the majority of the population would already have been vaccinated against Yellow Fever. Nevertheless, persons are advised to review the Yellow Fever (YFV) section on their immunization card to ensure that they have been vaccinated. Anyone who has not been vaccinated against Yellow Fever should visit their nearest public health centre to do so as soon as possible. It is especially important that children are kept current with their vaccination schedules. Children should receive their Yellow Fever vaccine when they are 1-year-old. A single primary dose of the Yellow Fever vaccine provides life-long protection. The population is asked to note that there has been no human case of Yellow Fever recorded in Trinidad and Tobago since 1979 and that there is no outbreak of Yellow Fever at this time. The following groups of persons are especially at risk:
Anyone who develops the following symptoms should visit the nearest health facility or health care provider as soon as possible:

UPDATE 2: Firefighters used a Halligan tool to extricate Woods, freeing him from the car via the window. They did not, contrary to their initial statement, use the “jaws of life” to break open the car. UPDATE: Woods’ Agent, Mark Steinberg, said he sustained multiple leg injuries and is currently in surgery. “Tiger Woods was in a single-car accident this morning in California where he suffered multiple leg injuries. He is currently in surgery and we thank you for your privacy and support.” Golf legend, Tiger Woods, was involved in a major single-car crash earlier today (Tuesday 23rd February 2021) near the Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes neighbourhoods of Los Angeles. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Officials said the crash occurred around 7:12am local time and the vehicle sustained "major damage” (see photo above). The “jaws of life” had to be utilized in order to extricate him from the wreck. LOS ANGELES COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT 45-year-old Woods was in the area for his annual Genesis Invitational Golf Tournament at the Riviera Country Club in the Pacific Palisades. He previously crashed his SUV in a 2009 high-profile incident at his home in Florida and in 2017 he was arrested after Police found him passed out behind the wheel of his car. Woods said at the time he had taken prescription medication before the accident and did not realize the effect it would have on him. Woods recently announced he underwent his fifth back surgery in December 2020, which could keep him out of the upcoming Masters Tournament in Augusta, Georgia. His last surgery was back in April 2017 to fuse his lower spine. This is a developing story - refresh this page for updates.
